Children's Vision

If visual problems are not caught early, our children will have a lot of problems. Our doctors take pride in seeing children (and infants) of all ages. If it has been more than one year since your child had a complete vision examination by an eye doctor, please schedule his/her appointment today.

Glasses for Children

We have over 50 children's frames in the latest styles, colors, shapes and sizes for children to choose from to fit their own unique fun and serious personalities. Our frames have spring hinges and many are completely flexible to help stand up to a child's lifestyle. We provide a breakage warranty at no cost that covers wear and tear of the frame. If there is an accident where the frames get bent, chipped or broken, just bring in the pieces. If we can't fix it, we will completely replace it (one time) anytime during the course of one year from the date of purchase.

Lenses: All of our children's glasses are made with polycarbonate lenses. This is the strongest, most shatter-resistant material available. Safety is one of our primary concerns, and we want to make sure that your child is protected from eye injury while wearing their glasses. Another wonderful feature of this material is that it automatically includes a scratch-resistant coating and UV protection at no extra cost. It is also the thinnest, most light-weight material available. Although the polycarbonate material is scratch-resistant, it is not scratch-proof. We allow all of our children to get one free pair of lenses re-made due to scratches anytime during the course of one year from the date of purchase.

Eyeglass cases: We have quite a selection of fun and colorful eyeglass cases for our younger patients to choose from. We want them to learn how to take proper care of their glasses while they have them on, or off. When your child picks up their glasses, we will teach them how to properly place their glasses on and take them off and clean them, so that they can take very good care of their glasses. We provide one free case to every child getting glasses.

Contact Lenses for Children

Age: There is no absolute age in order for a child to get contacts. It all depends on the maturity level of the child. Usually by age 11 or 12, a child is ready to take on the responsibilities of wearing contact lenses.

Recommendations: We recommend disposable contact lenses for children. They are very easy to use and very inexpensive to replace should they loose or tear them. It is healthier for their eyes to replace them on a more frequent basis. Also, it is nice to always have a back-up pair of contacts at home should anything happen to the pair that they are wearing.

Eye Safety for Children

Children, like all of us, need protection from potential eye injuries. If your child wears glasses for vision correction, the lens material should be shatter-resistant (commonly known as polycarbonate). In addition to being an extremely safe material, it also has ultra-violet protection built into the lens. The ultra-violet (UV) protection is important for any age because it helps with the prevention of cataracts, which are caused by UV light. If your child is active in sports, sports goggles are almost a necessity. In addition to having shatter-resistant lenses, the frame material is also shatter-resistant. We can even make lenses that change from clear indoors to tinted outdoors for instant sun protection!
